Miles Mikolas St. Louis Cardinals Career

On December 5, 2017, Mikolas signed a two-year, $15.5 million contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. On April 2, 2018, he made his Cardinals debut, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 8–4 at Miller Park.

He blasted a two-run home run against Zach Davies in his first major league at-bat. He went 5+23 innings on the mound, allowing three home runs and four runs in all while striking out five batters and walking none.

On May 21, 2018, Mikolas threw his first major league complete game, a shutout, against the Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium.

As the Cardinals trounced Kansas City 6–0, he struck out nine batters, walked one, and only allowed four hits.

Mikolas was named to the 2018 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, his first All-Star appearance, with a 9–3 record, 2.63 ERA, and 1.03 WHIP.

Mikolas had a league-leading 18–4 record in 2018 (including a perfect 10–0 road record).

In 32 starts, he had an 818 won-loss %, 2.83 ERA (4th in the National League), 1.071 WHIP (5th), and only 29 hitters walked in 200+23 innings (6th) (9th).

His 18 wins put him in a tie for first place in the National League with Jon Lester and Max Scherzer. He had the lowest BB/9 in the majors and the highest first-strike rate of any pitcher in the majors (70.8 percent ).

He also recorded the highest strike zone percentage of any major league pitcher, with 48.0 percent of his pitches in the strike zone.

He was second in the National League in range factor per nine innings (2.20), third in putouts (19), and fourth in assists (30). In the 2018 National League Cy Young Award voting, he finished sixth.

Mikolas and the Cardinals signed a four-year, $68 million contract extension on February 26, 2019. He went 9–14 with a 4.16 ERA in 184 innings pitched during the regular season.

For the 2019 National League Division Series, he will start Game 1 for St. Louis. Due to surgery to repair a flexor tendon in his right arm, he was forced to miss the whole 2020 season.
