Who is the oldest NFL franchise?

The oldest NFL team still operating in the same city is the Green Bay Acme Packers, which was established in 1919 and joined the league in 1921.

American football first appeared in colleges in the middle of the 19th century when adapted rugby and soccer rules were used. As professional football became more and more popular, many businesses began to support teams.

The American Professional Football Association (APFA), the precursor to the National Football League that was founded in 1920, was established as a result of this (NFL).

Ten teams that had previously operated in some capacity as regional teams made up the initial roster of the APFA.

Only the Arizona Cardinals (originally the Chicago Cardinals) and the Chicago Bears remain from this original lineup today (initially the Decatur Staleys).

The other teams on this list joined the NFL in succeeding years after the APFA changed its name to the NFL for the 1922 season. Each of these groups contributed significantly to developing the laws and traditions of the NFL.

Earl Curly Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun formed the Green Bay Packers. Former player Lambeau was hired as the Packers’ first head coach. The Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is named in his honor.

Coach Vince Lombardi is the other important person in Packers history, along with Lambeau. The Green Bay Packers won 11 NFL Championships between the two coaches (pre-Super Bowl).
