Willson Eduardo Contreras is a Venezuelan professional baseball player who plays as a catcher for the Chicago Cubs baseball team of the Major League Baseball(MLB). His younger brother, William Contreras, also plays for the Atlanta Braves baseball team.



Willson was born on May 13, 1992, in Puerto Cabello in Venezuela. When he was 16 years old, he enrolled at a baseball academy that was run by the Chicago Cubs baseball team located in Venezuela.

In 2009, the Chicago Cubs signed him to their team as an international free agent. He was then made to begin his professional career by playing with the Dominican Summer League Cubs of the minor league baseball that season.



Willson spent the 2013 minor league season, playing with the Kane County Cougars. For the 2014 and 2015 seasons, he spent it with the Daytona Cubs and the Tennessee Smokies.

In June 2016, Willson was promoted to the major leagues for the first time and in April the following year, he made it to the Cubs’ opening day roster as a starting catcher when they faced the St. Louis Cardinals.
