Who is Kyle Hendricks?

Kyle Christian Hendricks is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Chicago Cubs. He debuted in the major leagues in 2014 and topped the league in earned run average in 2016.

In Mission Viejo, California, Hendricks went to Capistrano Valley High School. He was picked in the 39th round of the 2008 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels, but he declined to sign and chose to attend Dartmouth College instead.

Under the direction of Bob Whalen, he played college baseball for the Dartmouth Big Green. Hendricks had a 6–3 win-loss record and a 2.47 ERA in 62 innings pitched as a junior, striking out 70 batters.

He was a member of the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League during the summer of 2010.

Hendricks was born and raised in the California town of San Juan Capistrano. John, his father, is a professional golfer, and Ann Marie, his mother, is a medical management consultant.

After finishing his coursework in the winter and fall of 2012, he received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth College in December 2013.

By his teammates and admirers, Hendricks is known as “The Professor.” Hendricks’ nickname is a nod to both his Ivy League education and Greg Maddux, who had the same moniker.

For the 2017 Players Weekend, Hendricks chose “Hendo” as his nickname. In November 2017, Hendricks married Emma Cain, a longtime girlfriend.
