Chase Young was born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, on April 14, 1999. He attended St. Columba School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, where he first took up American football, before enrolling at St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Maryland, in 2013.

As a freshman, he began playing there as a quarterback, tight end, and outside linebacker before focusing on the defensive end.

Young and the team won the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C-conference title the following year as a sophomore. He played the violin, saxophone, and piano in the school choir as well.

He was a Maryland native who played collegiate football for the Buckeyes at Ohio State University. In 2019, Young’s junior year, he set a school single-season sack record with 16.5 and earned multiple defensive player of the year awards.

He was also selected as a unanimous All-American. A unique accomplishment for a defensive player, he has also been voted Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year and made it as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

After that season, Young declared for the 2020 NFL Draft and was widely regarded as the top overall prospect before being taken second overall by Washington.

He led all rookies in 2020 in terms of sacks and forced fumbles, earning the title of NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year and selection to the Pro Bowl. His second season was viewed as a letdown after he only managed 1.5 sacks before injuring his ACL midway through.

Greg Young’s mother Carla works for the Office of Investigations for the US Department of Transportation, and Greg Young was a college basketball player at Bowie State University before becoming a deputy sheriff with the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office. Weslie, one of his sisters, played basketball in college for North Carolina Wesleyan.
