Phil Bickford was born on July 10, 1995, in Ventura, California, in the United States of America. He was born and raised in the same seaside town.
His parents are David and Barbara Bickford. He has one brother and four sisters. He formerly played for the Milwaukee Brewers in Major League Baseball. In Westlake Village, California, Bickford attended Oaks Christian School.
He was picked 10th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft, but he did not sign with the organization.
For his first year, he attended California State University, Fullerton. Following his freshman year in 2014, he played collegiate summer baseball for the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he posted a 1.63 earned run average with 44 strikeouts over 27.2 innings pitched, helped lead the Red Sox to the league championship, and was named the league’s Outstanding Pro Prospect.
He transferred to the College of Southern Nevada prior to his second year in order to be eligible for the 2015 draft. The San Francisco Giants picked him with the 18th overall choice in that draft.
