Matthew Boyd, a native of Mercer Island, Washington, attended Mercer Island High School for his freshman year before moving to Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish.



He earned his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University, where he also played for four years. He played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2011 and 2012, earning all-league honors in 2012.

He received the loss after pitching 62/3 innings against the Rangers, allowing 4 runs while striking out 7. Boyd struck out seven batters in his debut, tying the team record for strikeouts in a debut.

Despite pitching 6.2 innings for the Blue Jays in 2015 (who advanced to the ALDS), the team decided not to grant Boyd any money from the available postseason share monies.
