J.B. Bukauskas Minor Career

Bukauskas went to Ashburn, Virginia’s Stone Bridge High School. Stone Bridge won the regular season and district championships as a freshman thanks to his contributions.

Bukauskas made his “dream school” commitment to the University of North Carolina on July 7, 2012. He was a first-team All-Met selection as a sophomore.

During the summer after his sophomore year, Bukauskas reclassified so that he could graduate early and attend North Carolina a year early.

After a 7-0 record, 88 strikeouts, and no earned runs, he was named the All-Met Baseball Player of the Year for 2014.

At the end of his high school career, Bukauskas had a 21-3 record, 264 strikeouts, and an ERA of 0.88.

In spite of being widely predicted to be taken in the first two rounds of this year’s MLB draft, Bukauskas requested that every MLB team not select him.

He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 20th round, but he chose to stay at North Carolina, confirming his commitment to the university.

Bukauskas started 14 games for the Tar Heels as a freshman, and he was a regular in the weekend rotation.

In 2016, he participated in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Chatham Anglers as a collegiate summer baseball player.

He was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year and a first-team all-American by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball as a junior after going 9-0 with a 2.02 ERA during the regular season.
