The switch-hitter Albies began playing baseball at the age of six, and he began doing so in 2013. Albies was signed as an international free agent by the Atlanta Braves on July 2, 2013, after being discovered by Curaçao-based scout Dargello Lodowica.

The Braves’ ties to Curaçao natives Andruw Jones and Andrelton Simmons influenced Albies’ choice to sign with them. In 2014, he made his major league debut with the Gulf Coast Braves before signing with the Danville Braves in July of the same year.

Albies had a slash line of.364/.446/.444 with one home run in 57 games. Keith Law placed him among the top 100 prospects in baseball, and Baseball America ranked him sixth-best in the Braves’ farm system following his rookie season.

The Rome Braves drafted Albies in the first round of the 2015 draft. He was selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game in July.

He was the only Braves prospect and the youngest player on the field in that year’s game. Albies had a 1-2 game in the World Team’s 10–1 loss to the United States.
