Who is Max Scherzer?

Maxwell Martin Scherzer is a Major League Baseball pitcher who pitches for the New York Mets.

He has played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Dodgers in the Major League Baseball (MLB).

Scherzer, a right-handed starting pitcher, is an eight-time MLB All-Star who has won three Cy Young Awards, pitched two no-hitters, and helped the Nationals win the World Series in 2019.

He is called “Mad Max” after the fictional character of the same name. He is known for his energy and aggressiveness during play.

Scherzer recorded a win in Game One of the 2019 World Series and also started Game Seven, which the Nationals also won (Scherzer received a no-decision).

Scherzer is the fifth pitcher from both the American and National Leagues to start an All-Star Game. He leads the league in victories four times and has three strikeout titles.

He was one of the most consistent pitchers of his period, making at least 30 starts in every season from 2009 to 2018, and striking out at least 230 hitters every season from 2012 to 2019.

In 2017, he became the third-fastest pitcher to reach 2,000 career strikeouts and the fourth to do so in four straight seasons.

In the 2010s, Scherzer had the most wins (161) and strikeouts (2,452) of any pitcher. On September 12, 2021, he struck out 3,000 batters.

With a salary of over $43 million each season, he now holds the record for the biggest average yearly value baseball contract ever.
