He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in July 2018. The Cardinals assigned him to the Springfield Cardinals before they promoted him to the Memphis Redbirds. The Cardinals added him to their 40-man roster after the 2018 minor league season. The Cardinals promoted him to the major leagues for the first time in May 2019.
