How Long Is Matt Reynolds Contract?

Matt Reynolds

Mets infielder Matt Reynolds signed a minor league contract earlier this month, but the team did not announce it, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Reynolds, who was drafted by the Mets in the second round in 2012, is making a return to his old stomping ground.

He played in the major leagues for the Mets throughout the 2016 and 2017 seasons, and since then, he’s only seen action with the Nationals and Royals.

Over the course of his 251 big league plate appearances, Reynolds has a slash line of .212/.282/.323.

After a brief stint with Kansas City in 2020, Reynolds played the 2021 season in the White Sox system but has yet to be called up to the majors.

The Chicago White Sox’ Triple-A affiliate used him in 93 games, batting .269/.373/.395 while splitting time between the two middle-infield positions (in addition to a lone five-inning appearance in right field).

Reynolds has a.283/.363/.435 batting average in portions of seven Triple-A seasons.

The New York Mets’ infield is already full, with Robinson Cano, Francisco Lindor, Eduardo Escobar, J.D. Davis, Jeff McNeil, and Luis Guillorme all expected to play at some point this season.

Reynolds is slated to start at shortstop for Triple-A Syracuse, but he also has experience at second, third, and all three outfield spots. He should see plenty of action there.
