Paul Edward Goldschmidt, born on September 10, 1987, and nicknamed “Goldy,” is a Major League Baseball first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals (MLB).

Goldschmidt was lightly recruited out of The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas, and played for the Texas State Bobcats before being drafted in the eighth round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009. He made his Major League Baseball debut with them in 2011, then he was moved to the Cardinals during the 2018–19 offseason.

The Diamondbacks traded Goldschmidt to the St. Louis Cardinals on December 5, 2018, in exchange for Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, Andy Young, and a Competitive Balance Round B choice in the 2019 MLB draft.

Goldschmidt hit his 250th career home run on April 13, 2021, against the Washington Nationals. Goldschmidt had 603 at-bats in 158 games in 2021, slashing.294/.365/.514 with 31 home runs and 99 RBIs. He was one of five Cardinals (an MLB record) to earn the Gold Glove Award at first base.
