Tiger Stadium, previously known as Navin Field and Briggs Stadium, was a multi-purpose stadium located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit.

Because of its location at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Trumbull Avenue, the stadium was affectionately referred to as “The Corner.”

It was the home of the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1912 to 1999 and the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) from 1938 to 1974. Both teams played their home games there.

Tiger Stadium was given the designation as a State of Michigan Historic Site in 1975, and it has been included on the National Register of Historic Places ever since it was established in 1989.

On September 27, 1999, the Tigers played their final game in the stadium before it was closed. In the ten years that followed the departure of the Tigers from the stadium, numerous proposals for reconstruction and preservation were turned down, which ultimately led to its destruction.

Even though the destruction of the stadium was finished on September 21, 2009, the real playing field for the stadium is still located in the corner where the stadium used to be. In 2018, the land was redone to be used for sports by younger people.

What Is The Capacity Of Tiger Stadium?

The capacity of the Detroit Tigers stadium is 102,321. On November 25, 1924, LSU hosted Tulane in Tiger Stadium’s inaugural game after it had been built in the early 1920s.

There were grandstands on both sides of the gridiron in the original stadium, which sat 24,000 people in total. Over the course of nearly nine decades, the stadium has undergone six major expansions.

The first of these extensions, which boosted the facility’s capacity by 10,000 people in 1931, was completed in the 1930s. The north endzone was enclosed in 1936, bringing the stadium’s capacity up to 46,000 people.

With the addition of the first of two upper decks, in 1978, the stadium’s capacity grew to over 78,000 people. The Tigers’ 2000 11,600-seat expansion let the stadium accommodate even more raucous supporters.
