Ozhaino Jurdy Jiandro “Ozzie” Albies was born on January 7, 1997, and is a Curaçaoan Major League Baseball second baseman for the Atlanta Braves (MLB).

Albies joined the Braves organization in 2013 and made his MLB debut in 2017. Albies was chosen to the 2018 Major League Baseball All-Star Game during his first complete season.

He received the Silver Slugger Award for second basemen in the National League twice, in 2019 and 2021. He received the Heart & Hustle Award in 2021.

Albies began playing baseball when he was six years old and began switch-hitting in 2013. Albies was discovered by Curaçao-based scout Dargello Lodowica and signed as an international free agent by the Atlanta Braves on July 2, 2013.

The Braves’ ties to Andruw Jones and Andrelton Simmons, both Curaçao natives, influenced his choice to sign.  He made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Braves in 2014 before joining the Danville Braves in July.

Albies hit.364/.446/.444 with a home run in 57 games. Following the season, Keith Law placed him among the top 100 prospects in baseball, and Baseball America ranked him fifth in the Braves farm system.
