Who is Alfonso Rivas?

As a professional baseball player with the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball, Alfonso Rivas III is of Mexican descent.



He plays first base and outfield for the team. In 2021, he made his Major League Baseball debut.

When Rivas was four years old, his family moved him to Chula Vista, California, where he grew up on the side of the road near Interstate 805 and was raised in Tijuana before moving to Chula Vista in the fourth grade.



La Jolla Country Day School in La Jolla, California, was where Rivas went to school, and he graduated in 2015.

He went on to play college baseball at the University of Arizona, where he received his degree.


In his sophomore year, he appeared in 58 games and batted .371, driving in 64 runs and driving in seven home runs, while also driving in 54 runs.

During that summer, he was a member of the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Rivas played in 56 games as a junior in 2018, hitting .347 with seven home runs and 52 RBIs while putting up a .347 average.

Following the conclusion of the 2018 Major League Baseball season, he was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2018 Major League Baseball amateur draft.
