Who is Jake Reed?

Reed, Jacob Hubert, is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Mets. He was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball prior. He was a member of the Oregon Ducks throughout his college baseball career.



Reed was a pitcher on the baseball squad and a quarterback for the American football team at Helix High School in La Mesa, California.

Reed won the Grossmont South League Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore, posting a 5–4 record with a 1.54 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 65+23 innings pitched.



Reed was taken in the 40th round (1,221st overall) of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox after graduating in 2011. He chose to go to college rather than join the White Sox.

Reed signed up to play college baseball for the University of Oregon Ducks. Reed set a Ducks rookie record for most innings pitched in a season while pitching as a freshman.

Reed was converted to a relief pitcher by the Ducks during his junior season. Reed had a 4–1 record, a 1.93 ERA, and 13 saves in 13 appearances as the Ducks’ closer.

He earned a spot on the first team of the Pac-12 Conference.

Reed was chosen in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins, with the 140th overall pick. He received a $350,000 signing bonus when he joined the Twins.

Reed began the 2014 season with the Rookie-level Appalachian League’s Elizabethton Twins before being promoted to the Class A Midwest League’s Cedar Rapids Kernels midway through the season.

In 30 innings thrown across the two levels, he was 3–0 with a 0.30 ERA, seven saves, and 39 strikeouts to three walks and 11 hits allowed.

Reed was assigned to the Arizona Fall League after the regular season ended in 2014. (AFL). He was selected Pitcher of the Week in the AFL’s first week of play.
