Alec Mills’s Career with the Chicago Cubs

Kansas City Royals traded  Alec Mills for Donnie Dewees, who is a minor-leaguer, to the Chicago Cubs on February 8, 2017.

His season was cut short by an ankle injury and a forearm strain, but he still managed to make seven appearances with the Iowa Cubs of Class AAA Pacific Coast League in 2017.

For the Cubs, Mills’ first start in MLB came on August 24, 2018, when he replaced Tyler Chatwood, who was out with an injury.

In the same game, he received his first at-bat. With Iowa, he was 6-4 and had an earned run average of 5.11 throughout the year.

A year after José Quintana went down with an injury, Alec Mills came into the Cubs rotation in 2020.

At Miller Park, on September 13, 2020, Alec Mills no-hit the Milwaukee Brewers 12–0. A strikeout rate of 74% was achieved, while a walk rate of 33% was achieved.

As far as the Cubs are concerned, it was their 16th no-hitter. With a 5–5 record and a 4.48 ERA in 11 starts, Mills had a successful 2020 season.

Alec Mills’s rate of home runs per nine innings (1.9) was the highest among all qualified National League pitchers.
