Anthony DeSclafani Marlins Career

DeSclafani, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson lvarez, Yunel Escobar, Jeff Mathis, Justin Nicolino, and Jake Marisnick were traded to the Miami Marlins after the 2012 season, for Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, José Reyes, John Buck, and Emilio Bonifacio.

In 2013, DeSclafani pitched for the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League’s Class A-Advanced division and the Jacksonville Suns of the Class AA Southern League.



In 129 innings pitched at both levels, he had a 9–6 win-loss record and a 2.65 earned run average, averaging 1.6 walks/9 innings.

He was awarded a mid-season All-Star in the Florida State League. After the season, the Marlins awarded him minor league pitcher of the year, and he was named a MILB.com Miami Organization All-Star.

After being named the Marlins’ fifth-best prospect by Baseball America, DeSclafani opened the 2014 season with Jacksonville.

He was promoted to the major leagues by the Marlins and made his debut on May 14 against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

DeSclafani had seven strikeouts and two singles in the contest. With the return of Henderson Alvarez, he was optioned back to the New Orleans Zephyrs of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League on August 16.

On September 11, DeSclafani was ejected for the first time in his MLB career after intentionally hitting Carlos Gómez with a pitch during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

MLB suspended DeSclafani for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount the next day.
