Injuries limited him to just one start in the majors in 2015, a start against the Washington Nationals on September 1st, in which he gave up four runs on seven hits in two and a third innings but was given a no-decision as the Cardinals won 8-5.



In 14 starts for the Memphis Redbirds in AAA, he was 1-5 with a 5.45 ERA, and he also appeared in a pair of rehab appearances with Palm Beach and Springfield. Following that, he was sidelined for the entire year of 2016.

Marco was traded to the Seattle Mariners on July 21, 2017, in exchange for OF Tyler O’Neill, another prospect. After the trade, he was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in ten games after only making one start for the Cards.



Gonzales entered the Mariners’ starting rotation in 2018 and was a key player in the team’s first-half success. In a 4-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on June 29th, he pitched his first career complete game.

Gonzales and James Paxton were the team’s best two pitchers, albeit Marco had the benefit of being healthy for practically the entire season.

He went 13-9 with a 4.50 ERA in 29 starts and 166 2/3 innings. Paxton was traded after the season, and with long-time ace Felix Hernandez’s decline, he was the favorite to start the season opener for Seattle in 2019.
