Austin Scott Barnes is simply known as Austin Barnes in baseball. He plays American baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team and plays the position of a catcher in the team. He is 1.75m tall and weighs 84kg.



Austin was born to Dennis and Stephanie Barnes on December 28, 1989, in Riverside, California in USA. He is the firstborn out of four kids. He used to play as a shortstop in Little League Baseball when he was a little boy.

He played baseball in high school at the Riverside Polytechnic High School. Upon completion of his high school education and career, he enrolled at Arizona State University where he played college baseball.



He was drafted after his undergraduate degree by the Miami Marlins in the ninth round of the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his professional debut in the 2011 baseball season with the Class A Short Season Jamestown Jammers of the New York–Penn League.

Between 2012 and 2014, Austin played for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, Jupiter Hammerheads and Jacksonville Suns and was playing as a catcher or second baseman.

The Marlins traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2014. In 2015, he made his MLB debut for the Dodgers. The Dodgers renewed his contract in February 2021. This contract is for two years and it is worth $4.3 million.
