Ronald Acuña Jr. Atlanta Braves Career

The Braves elevated Acuna to the Major League Baseball roster on April 25, 2018. It was at this point that he surpassed his teammate Ozzie Albies in age as the youngest player in Major League Baseball.

For most of his minor-league career, Acuna wore uniform number 24 in homage to Miguel Cabrera, but on April 25, 2018, he made his major-league debut wearing uniform number 13.

Kevin Shackelford struck out Acuna for the first time in his professional career. Braves won 5–4 when he went 1-for-5 with a run in the eighth inning and scored the game-winning run.

Acuna hit his first major league home run the following day, against the Reds, off Homer Bailey. It was 7–4 in favor of the Braves after he went 3 for 4.

He was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a moderate ACL sprain and a bruise in his left knee, as well as a back injury, on May 28.

On June 21, the Atlanta Braves sent Acuna to Triple-A Gwinnett on a rehabilitation assignment.

Acuna became a regular following the All-Star break, hitting leadoff most of the time.

At the recommendation of Kevin Seitzer, a modification to his batting position resulted in an improvement in his performance.

On August 13, 2018, Acuna became only the fourth player in the history of Major League Baseball to hit a home run to lead off both games in a two-game series.

His four home runs in his last four games had also made him the youngest player since 1920 to smash a home run in each of his last four games.

He became only the first younger player in Atlanta Braves history to smash home runs in five straight games when he launched a home run off Trevor Richards on August 14.

On that night, Acuna hit a second home run, the first time he had ever hit more than one home run in a game, against Adam Conley.

On August 15, Acuna faced José Urea in the final game of the Braves’ series against the Marlins, and Urea struck him with the opening pitch of the game.

At the start of the second inning, Urea was dismissed from the game, and Acuna was brought in to fill his spot on the field.

The Braves next game was on August 16th against the Colorado Rockies, in which Acuna appeared. On August 23, Acuna hit a home run and was struck by a pitch during a game against the Marlins.

The Major League Baseball Rookie of the Month Award went to him in August for his outstanding play.

By hitting his eighth leadoff home run of the season on September 2, Acuna has tied a team record set by Marquis Grissom.

In a game against the Boston Red Sox three days later, Acuna broke the team record for leadoff home runs.
