César Augusto Hernández is a Venezuelan professional baseball second baseman who currently plays for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball.



His name is SAY-Zhir and he was born on May 23, 1990. He started his career with the Philadelphia Phillies and went on to play for the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox.

At the age of 16, Hernández was able to join the Phillies as a free agency amateur who had not been chosen on July 2, 2006. During the 2013 campaign, he played in his first game at the major league level.

In 2016, he led the major leagues in bunt hits, as well as the National League in infield hits and triples. He also led the main leagues in triples. In 2018, he had the same number of bunt hits as the big league leader.

It was difficult for Hernández to communicate in English with people he did not know very well, particularly when he was playing at the lower levels. He spoke Spanish almost exclusively at that time.

As of January 2019, he had a basic understanding of the English language but spoke nearly exclusively in Spanish.
