The Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays came to an agreement late on Thursday night for the Boston Red Sox to acquire first baseman/outfielder Steve Pearce from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 2018 MLB Trade Deadline is a little over a month away. In order to finish up the deal, the Boston Red Sox traded infielder Santiago Espinal to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Boston Red Sox  Fans will remember Espinal with fondness because he was one of the catalysts that led to the Drive winning the South Atlantic League Championship in 2017 for the first time in the franchise’s history.



Fans of the Red Sox baseball team voted for the infielder to win the Hale’s Jewelers Player of the Year award due to his exceptional performance in all facets of the game.

In the second half of the season, Espinal had a batting average of .340 over 60 games. For the entire season, he had a batting average of .280 and led the team in hits with 138.

He also had 64 runs, four home runs, 46 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. In addition to that, he was an outstanding defensive shortstop all throughout the season.

In 2018, Espinal generated even greater results while playing for the Salem Red Sox in the Carolina League. Over the course of 65 games, Espinal had a batting average of.313, seven home runs, and 32 RBI.
