A free agent signing with the St. Louis Cardinals, Oviedo was assigned to the DSL Cardinals on July 2, 2016, after being designated as an international free agent.

2017 saw him play for the Johnson City Cardinals and the State College Spikes, splitting time between both organizations.

The next season, he was promoted and spent the season with the Peoria Chiefs before joining the Springfield Cardinals for the following season.

After being assigned to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds to begin the 2020 season, Oviedo was reassigned to the newly constituted 60-man player pool as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic that prevented Minor League Baseball from having a season in 2019.

He made his Major League Baseball debut on August 19, 2020, after being promoted to the active roster.

The left-hander struggled in his five starts with the Cardinals, going 0-3 with a 5.47 ERA while striking out 16 in 24+2/3 innings.
