Jason Alexander is the younger brother of Scott Alexander, a major league pitcher, and Stu Alexander, a minor league pitcher.
When he had Tommy John surgery shortly after transferring to California State University, Long Beach in 2014, his college career was turned upside down.
He wasn’t ready to pitch again until 2017, and in the interim, he had to transfer to Menlo College because his NCAA Division I eligibility had run out. He was never drafted, but on June 21st of that year, he signed his first professional deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
From 2017 to 2019, he pitched with the Angels, reaching AAA with the Salt Lake Bees for a brief time in 2018 and a lengthier spell the following season, however he was ineffective at that level, posting a 3-5, 9.36 record in 12 games after pitching well in AA earlier in 2019.
He was one of the victims when many major league organizations cut their minor league rosters in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, receiving his walking papers on June 5th.
He was able to join as a free agent with the Miami Marlins a year later, in April of 2021. He made one start with the AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos and another with the AAA Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, both of which went well, before being placed on the injured list on June 1st and missing the rest of the season until early September.
After returning to Jacksonville, he continued to pitch well, going 1-1 with a 1.37 ERA in seven games. After the season, he became a free agent again and signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in late November.
He began the 2022 season with the AAA Nashville Sounds, where he went 6-2 with a 2.64 ERA in nine games, including seven starts, before being called up to Milwaukee.
On June 1st, he made his major league debut as a starter against the Chicago Cubs. He pitched 7 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned), but he was not involved in the decision as the Brewers lost 4-3 in 10 innings.
