Jonathan Villar, born Jonathan Rafael Villar Roque is a professional baseball player from the Dominican Republic who is positioned as a second baseman for the Chicago Cubs baseball team of Major League Baseball(MLB). Jonathan is the number 24 jersey wearer of the team.

He was born and raised in La Vega in the Dominican Republic on May 2, 1991. He had his high school and college amateur baseball career in the Dominican Republic. The Philadelphia Phillies signed him as an international free agent in 2010.

Before the start of the 2011 baseball season, he has named the 94th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America. In 2013, he played for the Oklahoma City RedHawks where he was named the Astros’ minor league hitter for June that season.

The Houston Astros promoted Jonathan to the major leagues in July 2013. Two years after playing in the major leagues, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. He played for the Brewers from 2015 till December 2019 when he was traded to the Miami Marlins.

The Toronto Blue Jays bought Jonathan’s contract from the Marlins in August 2020. In  February 2021, he signed a one-year contract of $3.55 million with the New York Mets. He became a free agent at the end of his contract and was signed by the Chicago Cubs on a one-year contract worth $6 million in March 2022.
