He played high school football while he was a student at Taylor High School. At Texas Tech University, he was a member of the football squad known as the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

He did not play or earn a redshirt as a freshman, but in 2017 he started all 13 games as a cornerback and was the starter. He finished fifth on the team with 51 tackles overall, and he also produced one interception, two forced fumbles, and recoveries of fumbles.
