Greg grew up in Metairie, Louisiana where he had both his high school baseball career and college career. He was at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, Louisiana and then the Louisiana State University (LSU), where he played college baseball for the Tigers.

Before he graduated college, the Minnesota Twins drafted him in the 26th round of the 2016 MLB draft, but he did not sign with them and rather chose to play collegiate summer baseball with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League.



Greg graduated from the University in 2017 and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the second round of the 2017 MLB draft. He agreed to play for them and signed with the team. He then began his professional career by playing with the Low-A Vermont Lake Monsters of the minor league.

Greg played with the Midland RockHounds of the Double-A Texas League during the 2019 minor league season. In 2020, he was part of those selected to play in the Arizona Fall League for the Mesa Solar Sox.

In July  2021, the Oakland Athletics traded him to the Chicago Cubs. Greg made his MLB debut in August that year for the Cubs.
