Jordan Lyles Current Team: What Team Does Jordan Lyles Play on?

According to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletics, the Orioles and Jordan Lyles have agreed to a one-year, $7MM guarantee with a 2023 club option .

Until then, the deal is pending the outcome of an examination, which should take place following the strike. Ballengee Group is the agency that represents Lyles.

If the Orioles complete the deal for Lyles, it will be the team’s largest free-agent acquisition since Mike Elias was named Executive Vice President and General Manager three years ago.

Previously, Elias had spent $3MM on Jose Iglesias in free agency. During Elias’ rebuild, bringing in seasoned Major Leaguers was not a priority.

Trey Mancini and Alex Lyles are expected to be the only Orioles to earn more than $7 million in 2022. During Elias’ time in charge, the Orioles’ payroll has consistently been towards the bottom of the league.

In 2008, the Astros selected Lyles 38th overall from a South Carolina high school, and he peaked as a top 50 prospect before the 2011 season, around the time Elias and fellow executive Jeff Luhnow went from the Cardinals to the Astros.

In 2013, Luhnow acquired Dexter Fowler in exchange for Lyles from the Rockies.

The 31-year-old Lyles pitched for the Rangers in 180 innings and had a 5.15 ERA, a 19 percent strikeout rate, a 7.3 percent walk rate, and a 37.6 percent groundball rate.

Orioles starter John Means was the only trustworthy member of their rotation after Means, thus there was little to like about Lyles’ season other than the fact that he threw the ball 30 times.

A two-year, $16 million contract with the Rangers was signed by Lyles after a successful 2019 season with the Pirates and Brewers. Throughout his stay in Texas, the right-hander had a difficult time.
