Alfonso Rivas is an American born professional baseball player in Major League Baseball who plays the position of first baseman and outfielder for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Alfonso was born to Sandra and Alfonso Jr on September 13, 1996.
He played baseball in high school at La Jolla Country Day School in California. After he was undrafted after high school, he continued his education and amateur career by enrolling at the University of Arizona where he played college baseball for the University.
Alfonso also played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox in 2017. In 2018, he was selected by the Oakland Athletics during the fourth round of the 2018 MLB draft.
Alfonso agreed to play for the Athletics and signed with them to kick off his professional career. His first team was the Vermont Lake Monsters of the Class A Short Season New York–Penn League.
The Athletics traded him to the Chicago Cubs in January 2020. That season, he did not play in a game due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was promoted to the major leagues for the first time in August 2021. Alfonso made his MLB debut in August 2021 for the Cubs.
