Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jordan Horton Lyles is an American professional baseball player.

As a former professional baseball player, he has appeared in games for a variety of teams including the Texas Rangers and the Colorado Rockies.

He went to high school in Hartsville, where he graduated from Hartsville High School in 1994.

He led the Red Foxes to a 4A championship in his junior baseball season, with a 6–1 record and a 0.85 earned run average, as a starter (ERA).

The year before, he was 7–2 with a 1.86 ERA in 60+2/3 innings of work with 89 strikeouts. Lyles had a career batting average of .447 with six home runs and twenty RBIs.

In football, Lyles had 81 receptions for 1,568 yards and 23 touchdowns in a single season.

During the 2008 Major League Baseball draft, the Houston Astros selected Lyles in the 38th round.

The Appalachian League was Lyles’ first stop after signing when he threw 64 innings and recorded 64 strikeouts. Baseball America ranked Lyles as the Astros’ #1 prospect in 2010.

He was selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game that year and did so.

When Houston purchased Lyles’ contract on May 28, 2011, he was still a free agent. On May 31, he made his debut start for the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field.

7–3 triumph for him in 7+ innings of work with just one earned run. The hit was also his first professional one.

On August 3, 2011, Lyles beat the Cincinnati Reds for his first major league victory. He has a 5.36 ERA in the 2011 season with Houston.
