Percy Butler was selected by the Washington Commanders in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. He proceeded to sign his four-year rookie contract on June 21, 2022.

Butler, who later attended Plaquemine High School, was born on May 29, 2000, in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He committed to play for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as a 2-star prospect. Before getting hurt as a freshman, he participated in six games.
In his sophomore year, he participated in all 14 of Louisiana’s games, made 12 starts, recorded 54 tackles, two passes were broken up, and three fumbles were forced.
Butler had 44 tackles as a junior while also breaking up six passes, forcing two fumbles, recovering two of them, and making two interceptions.
He had 61 tackles, three fumble recoveries, and an interception as a senior, earning him second-team All-Sun Belt recognition. He also took part in the NFL Combine in 2022.

Butler enjoys the toughness of the game, but safety positions in the NFL today also call for defensive backs to be quick.
Butler is also trouble-free in that regard. Butler was able to match the pace of several receivers who ran the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine. His mark of 4.36 was second-fastest for a safety and tied for eighth-fastest overall.
