Patrick was one of the greatest pitchers in the National League at the start of the 2013 season, thus the projected success arrived fast.

He defeated the Atlanta Braves 2-0 on May 14th, pitching seven shutout innings to record his sixth victory with no losses.

Chipper Jones, a recently retired Braves player, praised his performance on Twitter, writing, “This Corbin fella is very wicked!” Randy Johnson was the only other pitcher in franchise history to start a season with six victories in a row.

Corbin won his seventh game in a row on May 20th, defeating the Colorado Rockies 5-1.

It was his first career complete game, which he pitched at Coors Field, allowing only three hits and decreasing his ERA to 1.44, second best in the National League behind Clayton Kershaw.

He became the first pitcher in big league history to win nine games on June 2nd, despite not having his best outing, as he gave up four runs in six innings to the Chicago Cubs, but his teammates scored eight runs.

At the time, he was tied with Brandon Webb for the best start to a season in team history, and the D-Backs had won all 11 of his starts.

On the strength of his 5-0 record and 1.53 ERA, he was named the National League Pitcher of the Month for the month of May.

Since Dan Haren in 2008, he was the first D-Backs pitcher to win the award.

He was remained undefeated by the end of June, one of only two pitchers in the majors to do so (the other being Max Scherzer), and had increased his record to 9-0 with an ERA of 2.22, earning him a spot on the NL team for the 2013 All-Star Game.
