His mother battled alcoholism and eventually divorced his father, Larry, who worked as a single dad at the University of Central Florida (UCF) (and had previously played collegiate football at Temple University).

Candace, who Eflin has described as his greatest motivation, was born with global developmental delay and has special needs. Eflin claims he leaned significantly on his Christian faith as a child because his paternal grandfather was a pastor for 60 years.

Eflin is a middle-of-the-rotation starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. He is noted for relying on a sinker (93 mph) and slider (88 mph) combination to get ground ball outs and for having excellent command of his pitches, allowing minimal walks.

Eflin, who had previously been prone to pitching to contact, began throwing harder in 2018, hoping to smash pitches past batters and record strikeouts.

After struggling in 2019, he shifted away from that technique, and by 2020, he had largely returned to his roots in terms of how he attacked batters.

Zach was born on April 8, 1994, indicating that he is 28 years old now, he is currently a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball.
