Mookie was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee the United States on October 7, 1992. His parents are Diana Benedict and Willie Betts.

Mookie played baseball back in high school at the John Overton High School in Nashville. After High school, he didn’t go to college as he was drafted in 2011 by the Boston Red Sox team during the 2011 MLB draft. He agreed to play for them and was given an amount of  $750,000.

The Red Sox promoted him to the major leagues in June 2014. He made his MLB debut that same month playing for the Sox. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in February 2020 and he was signed to a 12-year contract extension in July 2020.

The contract is worth $365 million and it comes with a $65 million signing bonus. The contract happens to be the richest contract ever in Dodger’s history and the third-richest contract to ever happen in the history of North American sports. The contract is to last through the 2032 baseball season.
