Edwin was born in Caguas, a town in Puerto Rico on April 21, 1994, to Puerto Rican parents, Heyda Rosario and Edwin Rios. After his family moved to America, Edwin got enrolled at Osceola High School where he played baseball for the school’s baseball team.

After high school, he got admission to attend Florida International University where he played college baseball for their baseball team.  Between 2013 and 2014, Edwin played for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League and the Orleans Firebirds.



Edwin was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th round of the 2015 MLB draft. He signed with the Dodgers and began his professional career by playing for the Arizona League Dodgers.
