He was born on October 28, 1998, in Columbus, Ohio in the United States of America. He had his formal education at the Christian Academy of Knoxville in Knoxville, Tennessee where he played high school baseball for the school’s baseball team. After his high school education and amateur career, he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 35th round of the 2017 MLB draft, but he did not sign with them and n rather opted to play college baseball at Clemson University for the Clemson Tigers.

In college, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He got injured in 2019 and had to undergo surgery. He returned to the games in 2020 and was drafted by the Atlanta Braves during the fourth round of the 2020 MLB draft.



Spencer agreed to play for the Braves and signed with them. The Braves then assigned him to make his professional debut that season by playing for the Augusta GreenJackets, the Rome Braves, the Mississippi Braves, and the Gwinnett Stripers. The Braves put him on their active roster in October 2021 and he made his MLB debut that night.
