Who Is Drew Pomeranz Brother, Stu Pomeranz?

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Stuart Michael Pomeranz is the older brother of Drew Pomeranz, a pitcher for the San Diego Padres.



The St. Louis Cardinals selected Pomeranz in the second round of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft out of Germantown, Tennessee’s Houston High School.

With the Johnson City of the Rookie League, Pomeranz made his professional debut. In 4 outings, he had a 1-1 record and a 6.14 ERA.

Pomeranz pitched for Single-A Peoria in his first full season, when in 17 starts he was 12-4 with a 3.55 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 101.1 innings.

In the Cardinals’ minor league system in 2004, his 12 victories were the most.

Pomeranz started the 2005 season with High-A Palm Beach, where he performed admirably in 8 starts before being promoted to Double-A Springfield, where he struggled in 18 starts.

He pitched 147 innings and had a combined record of 7-11, 4.65 ERA, and 95 strikeouts.

In 2006, Pomeranz made 18 more starts for Springfield, finishing 7-4 with a 4.39 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 98.1 innings pitched.

In 2006, he was accused of DUI.  After the season, he pitched in the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Saguaros, going 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA in 6 starts over 17 innings.

He allowed 30 hits and 8 walks. Pomeranz had arthroscopic shoulder surgery in July 2007, and between the GCL Cardinals and Palm Beach, he only made 6 starts that year, going 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA.

He performed significantly better with the Mesa Solar Sox in the AFL after the season, going 2-0 in 5 starts with a 0.64 ERA. Pomeranz was released by the Cardinals on May 13, 2008, while he was still pitching in extended spring training.
