Samuel Trenton Long, simply known as Sam Long in baseball is a professional baseball pitcher with the San Francisco Giants baseball team of the Major League Baseball (MLB). Sam was born July 8, 1995, in Fair Oaks, California.



Sam played baseball non professionally in high school after which he continued to play college baseball at the California State University located in Sacramento for the Hornets. He earned the title of the WAC’s Freshman of the Year, and the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2014 whiles in college.

After he graduated from the University in 2016, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 18th round of the 2016 MLB draft. He began his professional career when he was assigned to play with the GCL Rays. He was also assigned to play for the rookie ball Princeton Rays that season.

Sam played for the Low-A Hudson Valley Renegades and the Single-A Bowling Green Hot Rods during the 2017 minor league season and in 2018, the Rays released him.  The Chicago White Sox team signed him on a minor league contract in March 2019.

In November 2020, Sam signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants team including an invitation to the Giant’s spring training for the season. Before the 2021 season began, he was ranked as the Giant’s 11th-best prospect.
