Scott is of American descent and was born to Stefan Effross and Christine Morton in Twinsburg, Ohio in the United States. Scott attended Twinsburg High School and was positioned as a first baseman for the school’s baseball team.

Before completing high school, Scott earned several awards including the Plain Dealer High School Baseball All-Star team, the Northeast Ohio Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Team, the All-Ohio Academic Team and the Mizuno All-Ohio all in 2012.



After high school, Scott continued his baseball career at Indiana University. Aside from playing for the school, he was also a political science major student.

He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs team in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Scott signed with the Cubs and received a signing bonus of $100,000. He then began playing professionally in minor leagues that same year.

The Cubs promoted him to the major leagues for the very first time on August 28 2021. He made his MLB debut the following day for the Cubs.
