During the month of April 2015, Cole was named the National League Pitcher of the Month. He had a 4-0 record, a 1.76 earned run average, and 35 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings pitched with the Reds.

He was credited with a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Braves on June 7th, in which he threw seven scoreless innings, to raise his record to 9-2.

As of that moment, he tied Felix Hernandez for most wins in the majors and became the first Pittsburgh pitcher since Emil Yde in 1925 to win 30 games in his first 53 starts.

On June 13th, he defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 to become the first big leaguer to win ten games in a row. For the first time, he made the All-Star team and threw a scoreless inning.

Since Dock Ellis had 14 victories in a row in 1971, he is the first Pirates pitcher to reach that milestone before the end of July.

The 19-8, 2.60 season record earned him the right to start the Wild Card Game at Wrigley Field on October 7th against the Chicago Cubs.

He was up against Jake Arrieta, who had a fantastic second half and had beaten him just ten days previously in a head-to-head matchup. Cole allowed four runs in five innings and the Pirates were out in the first inning, losing 4-0.
