Michael Thomas Baumann is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Baltimore Orioles (MLB). In 2021, he made his MLB debut.
Baumann was a member of the baseball and American football teams at Mahtomedi High School in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. He was drafted in the 34th round of the 2014 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins. Instead of signing, he enrolled at Jacksonville University to play college baseball for the Dolphins.
He played collegiate summer baseball for the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox in 2016. Nick, his older brother, was also a baseball and football player at Mahtomedi.
Baumann was drafted in the third round of the 2017 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Baumann began the 2018 season with the Class A South Atlantic League’s Delmarva Shorebirds. n May, he was promoted to the Frederick Keys of the Carolina League’s Class A-Advanced. In 124 innings pitched, he was 7–6 with a 2.98 ERA and 142 strikeouts.
Baumann was added to the 40-man roster on November 20, 2020. Baumann made his major league debut with the Orioles on September 7, 2021, against the Kansas City Royals at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
