Jonathan Villar’s full name is Jonathan Rafael, Villar Roque. He is a well known professional baseball player who currently plays for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. He plays as a second baseman for the team and wears the number 24 jersey in the team.



He was born and raised in La Vega, a town in the Dominican Republic where he had his non-professional baseball career. Jonathan played for the Houston Astros after he was traded to them by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Jonathan was privileged to be named the 94th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America in 2011. He was also named the Astros’ minor league hitter for June during the 2013 baseball season.



He was promoted to the major leagues in July 2013 by the Astros. In 2015, two years after playing in the major leagues, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers by the Astros. The Brewers also traded him in December 2019 to the Miami Marlins.

The Toronto Blue Jays purchased Jonathan’s contract from the Marlins in August 2020. In  February 2021, he signed a one-year contract of $3.55 million with the New York Mets. In March 2022, he was signed by the Chicago Cubs on a one-year contract worth $6 million.
