Tyler Harrison Kinley is a professional American baseball pitcher who plays for the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball. Kinley was born on January 31, 1991, in the United States (MLB).
Earlier in his career, he was a member of the Minnesota Twins and the Miami Marlins. Kinley has in the past asserted that he shared a family connection with William McKinley, a prior president of the United States.
However, later on, a journalist who studied his family history revealed that they were not connected and traced Kinley’s heritage back to farmers in North Carolina. This contradicted the initial findings of the journalist.
It was the 16th round of the 2013 MLB draft when the Miami Marlins made their selection of Kinley. In 2013, he played for the Batavia Muckdogs and Gulf Coast Marlins.
There are two other teams in which Kinley has previously played: Jupiter Hammerheads and the Greenville Grasshoppers. Kinley has 212 strikeouts in 204+13 innings pitched by the end of the 2017 season.
Kinley was selected by the Twins in 2017 from the Marlins. Kinley recorded a 0.47 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 19 innings for the Dominican Winter League’s Tigres del Licey.
The Marlins didn’t protect Kinley after the 2017 season. On May 1, 2018, the Twins sent Kinley to the Marlins. The Colorado Rockies claimed Kinley off waivers from Miami in 2019.
In 24 Rockies appearances in 2020, he had a 5.32 ERA and 9.9 K/9. Kinley’s right elbow flexor tore in 2022, according to MRI.
