C.J. Cron

C.J. Cron is an American professional baseball first baseman and designated hitter for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Los Angeles Angels, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, and Detroit Tigers.

Cron graduated from Phoenix’s Mountain Pointe High School in 2008. He was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 44th round (1320th overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft, but he did not sign, opting to attend college.

Cron attended the University of Utah, where he played college baseball for the Utah Utes baseball team. Cron was selected for the Mountain West Conference (MWC) Freshman of the Year and a second-team College Freshman All-American in 2009.

Third Team All-American, All-MWC, and MWC Player of the Year were all accolades he received in 2010. After the 2010 season, he was a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Cotuit Kettleers.

Cron was selected as an All-American by Baseball America in 2011 after leading the nation in on-base plus slugging (OPS) (1.320) and slugging %.

Professional baseball first baseman and designated hitter C.J. Cron was born to his parents Chris Cron (father) and Linda Cron (mother). His father Chris Cron is a former professional baseball player, manager, and current coach. As of 2021, he is the assistant hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Cron made his Major League Baseball debut with the California Angels on August 15, 1991, and played in his final game on October 4, 1992, after being selected in the second round of the 1984 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves.

The White Sox’s minor league club, the Bristol White Sox, hired Cron as manager in 1995, and he has since spent several years in that organization’s farm system.
