Catcher Chris Okey, sometimes known as Christopher Campbell Okey currently plays for the Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball. He was born on December 29, 1994, making him 26 at the time of this writing.
Okey finished his secondary school education at Eustis High School in Florida, where he also participated in baseball club activities. He played baseball for the American junior national team as well.
In order to play baseball for the Clemson Tigers, Okey enrolled at Clemson University. Throughout his rookie season, he rotated between catching and designated hitter.
Okey had a senior year batting average of .411 while scoring 29 runs and hitting four home runs (RBIs). In the 31st round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft, the San Diego Padres selected Okey.
Okey was taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the 2016 draft with the 43rd overall pick. Okey made his major league debut with the Rookie-level Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League after signing a contract with the Reds and allegedly receiving a $2 million signing fee.
Before being sent to the Dayton Dragons of the Class A Midwest League, he participated in nine games with Billings. Okey participated in 51 games in 2016 and batted 6 home runs and 22 RBIs for .227 at the end.
Due to Tyler Stephenson’s injury, the Reds decided to promote Okey to the major leagues on June 10, 2022. On defense, he took over for Aramis Garcia, and the next day, he made his major league debut, falling to the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0.
