Robert John Hanrahan was a reporter for American television who had previously worked for WHP-TV, a CBS station in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was born on April 11, 1962, and died on July 3, 2022, at the age of 60.
Before moving to WHP, he spent four years co-anchoring newscasts with Maggie Rodriguez at WFOR-TV, a CBS owned-and-operated station in Miami, Florida. From 1996 through 2003, Hanrahan was an anchor for WABC-TV in New York City.
As Nancy Loo’s co-anchor for the morning and midday Eyewitness News broadcasts, he began his employment with the station. By the end of 1997, Hanrahan had advanced to the position of co-anchor alongside Roz Abrams on WABC’s 5:00 PM broadcast, replacing Greg Hurst. He held the role for a few years after that.
During this time, Hanrahan was involved in a second redesign of the morning newscast; Lori Stokes and he were chosen to replace Loo and David Ushery as morning hosts. However, Hanrahan chose not to participate in the noon newscast this time. As part of a lineup change at WABC near the end of his time there, Diana Williams took his spot on the early evening newscasts.
Hanrahan switched to weekend-only anchoring till his contract was up. After recovering for six months following a serious heart attack, he made his retirement announcement on February 7, 2021.
