What is the Jacksonville NFL team called?
The American professional gridiron football team known as the Jacksonville Jaguars is headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, and competes in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) (NFL).
In 1995, the Jaguars and the Carolina Panthers both joined the National Football Conference as expansion teams. Both teams began their careers in the same year (NFC).
Tony Boselli, a future All-Pro lineman, was the first player selected by the Jaguars in the collegiate draft. Boselli would go on to serve as the anchor of a prolific offensive that assisted the Jaguars in rapidly becoming a winning organization.
The Jaguars improved significantly from their first season, when they finished with a record of 4–12, to the following year, when they finished with a record of 9–7 and won a position in the AFC playoffs because of the outstanding play of quarterback Mark Brunell and wide receiver Jimmy Smith.
After that, the squad went on to win two postseason games away from home before ultimately falling to the New England Patriots in the American Football Conference championship game.
Following another season in which they were able to make it to the postseason (1997), the Jaguars strengthened their potent attack by adding running back Fred Taylor the following year (1998) and went on to win their first division title.
The next season, the club finished with a record of 14–2, which was the best in the NFL. However, in the AFC championship game, Jacksonville was defeated by their division rivals, the Tennessee Titans.
