Robert Lee Jones, a former American football linebacker who was born on September 27, 1969, played for the Dallas Cowboys, the St. Louis Rams, the Miami Dolphins, and the Washington Redskins in the National Football League.
Jones spent his entire playing career in the NFL. He played college football as a student at East Carolina University. The 1991 team that won the Peach Bowl and finished the regular season with a record of 12-1 earned a national rating of No. 9 overall and had Jones as a co-captain.
He recorded two interceptions, three tackles for loss, three passes defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery as a junior, giving him 167 tackles, which put him in second place all-time on the school’s record.
He was inducted that year into the East Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame in recognition of his accomplishments (2004). Jones was chosen by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 1992 NFL Draft (number 24 overall).
He played for the Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans throughout the course of his ten-year career.
He was dismissed by the Redskins in 2001 after refusing to have his contract restructured. He joined the Houston Texans in 2002 as a free agent but requested to be released before the start of the season.
